websites

I plan to have my list of websites posted soon... or maybe I'll create my own website, who knows, now that I've learned enough HTML to make a bare-bones website. It won't be pretty until I learn CSS or anything, but it'll be something.

So yeah, I have to take the GRE next week (the 21st). I'm not looking forward to it, but it needs to get done... stupid 4-hour standardized test :-(

As for the rest, I'll be in summer school again this year, and hopefully will be able to make it all the way through. I'm not going to attempt to work nearly as many hours or take as many classes as I did last summer, so it should go a little better... not to mention certain other things that led to my undoing last summer won't be huge factors this time around due to finally getting them somewhat under control. Now if I can just get the massive amounts of homework and paperwork cleared up over break, as well as catch up on some sleep, I should be able to make it through the rest of the semester without too many other problems. All conditional statements, I realize, but without the restrictions of work and class this coming week, I imagine I'll be able to pull it off (it may require a heavy application of the reward system, but it should do).

I'm off to make my to-do list for the week, take a practice GRE, and then go out and have some fun on this Saturday evening :-)

Until later...

hello everyone

Hello everyone,

I am indeed still alive, just attempting to deal with all the busywork inherent in a 20-hour course load plus work and various extracurricular commitments...

I've not had time to really work much on my books, as I've been busy with the aforementioned homework and such. I have a presentation, 2 exams, and a paper all coming due within the next week and a half, plus a conference all day Saturday and a practice GRE to take... so I may not get any writing done. Perhaps as the semester winds down, things will begin to take shape and I'll be able to get more done.

Unfortunately, I couldn't take Korean again this semester, so I'll have to resort to studying on my own and hoping my friends will forgive my minor mistakes and correct the big ones when I try to speak it...

Medically, I've been doing much better, aside from my freak accident that landed me a busted ankle, but oh well... the major stuff is under control. I still go in to the doc's office nearly every week to make sure, but I definitely feel like less of a wreck when I do go in, and the prognosis is looking better :-)

I'm hoping to have my collection of links organized and categorized by spring break, so that I can post them for all to play with. You'd be surprised what I've found...

Ok, that's my update for now, I have to go do my homework while I have the time to do it (the university cancelled classes today due to the blizzard warning and whiteout road conditions)... so until later...

overdue greetings from a college town in the middle of the cornfields

Hello again, after a summer that took too long and not long enough to end... such is my life. I'm still in school, doing the best I can. I'll be posting more resources as I can find them, but we'll see how long that takes to do. I also intend to write some books and learn as many languages as I can (I'm starting Korean this semester along with my Spanish courses for my major). Too much to do and not nearly enough time to do it all... the major complaint of just about everyone in the world...

In the meantime, take care!

If you have the computer set so that Korean is in the language bar, here are the key correspondences (the first of each pair is lower case, the other uppercase- using 'Shift'):

linguistics links

Here are some linguistics links, care of my instructors here at UIUC:

Some of these are fun to play with (especially Sammy the sagittal section), others are actually very surprising (the dichotic listening test, for one)... and the IPA chart always comes in handy :-D
